Welcome to the Roswell King Chapter, NSDAR

The Roswell King Chapter, NSDAR, is located in Dunwoody, Georgia, and was organized on October 7, 1981, specifically for working women. It is one of the few chapters in the metro Atlanta area where regular scheduled meetings are in the evening or on a weekend to accommodate the modern, working woman’s busy schedule.

Roswell King, founder of Roswell, Georgia, was born May 3, 1765, in Windsor, Connecticut, the son of Timothy and Sarah Fitch King. He married Catherine Barrington, daughter of Josiah Barrington, kinsman of James Oglethorpe. King came to this area from Glynn County, Georgia, where he settled for a while. He died in Barrington Hall, in Roswell, on February 15, 1844, and is buried in Founders Cemetery. He was a patriot, serving in the American Revolution in 1782.

Along with Barrington, Roswell King founded the Roswell Manufacturing Company in 1839, and laid out the town of Roswell on land owned by the Kings.

The community of Dunwoody was named for Charles Dunwoody, who settled here during the Civil War. The Dunwoodys were close associates of the Kings. Originally, Dunwoody was more closely tied to Roswell than to Atlanta.

Points of interest in Roswell (pertaining to the King family) include The Old Bricks, Founders Cemetery, Roswell Presbyterian Church, Roswell Factory, and Barrington Hall.
